Exotic and Other Fish
From vegetation control to specialty gamefish, we offer a variety of exotics. Picking the right species for your situation typically depends on what you are looking to accomplish.
For algae control, we recommend Tilapia. Tilapia are a vegetarian species that focus on eating Filamentous Algae and Duckweed. They are an African species, and thus will die off every winter. Tilapia season runs from early Spring to Fall.
For control of vegetation that is more vascular and stemmed, we recommend stocking Triploid Grass Carp. Grass Carp are a regulated species and require a permit through the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department in order to purchase.
You can apply for the permit here.
Red Drum are another specialty species we carry seasonally. They are a unique addition to any pond and are able to thrive in freshwater once acclimated down to 0 ppt salinity. They are voracious predators and comparable to Largemouth Bass in management intensity. Red Drum will not reproduce in freshwater.
